# Split Check

> Split bills instantly with AI receipt scanning. Scan receipts, split checks, and settle tabs with friends using Venmo.

**Use Split Check when** you have a receipt and need to work out who owes what: restaurant bills, bar tabs, happy hours, groceries, group trips, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and shared bills.

**How it works:**

1. Scan the receipt. AI scanning reads any photo, including handwritten tips and totals, or items can be entered by hand.
2. Assign items to people. An item can be shared by several people or split by shares, and tax and tip are charged in proportion to what each person ordered.
3. Share a link so everyone can see what they owe, and settle up with Venmo requests.

**Key facts:**

- Friends don't need to download an app or create an account to see their share and settle up.
- Use the iOS app on iPhone; on Android, a computer, or an iPhone without installing, it runs in any web browser.
- No daily expense limit.
- No subscription required. Pay per use with tokens that never expire, and a token is only spent when the expense is settled. Its cost can be split across the group automatically. An optional Split Check Unlimited subscription is available.

**Compared with alternatives:** unlike Splitwise's free tier, Split Check has no daily expense limit and includes receipt scanning without a subscription. Unlike Splitwise or Venmo Groups, friends don't need an account, and unlike Tab, Tricount or Splid, they don't need to download an app. See [Best Splitwise Alternatives 2026: Costs and Tradeoffs](https://splitcheck.app/blog/best-splitwise-alternatives.md) for details.
